Memorial Day Weekend Outfit Guide

This weekend is the official kick-off to summer! That means pulling out the sandals and attending plenty of cookouts. Unsure what to wear? Below are two outfit options for your Memorial Day weekend plans.

From left to right-

Outfit One:

Outfit Two:

I’m obsessed with the easy-breezy nature of both outfits and how simple each color palette is. When breaking out your summer whites and denim, it is all about adding pops of color or texture. Each outfit mixes both of those elements and makes it easy to layer, as well.

And if the weather is not cooperating (you never know in New England), switch out the white shorts for some white or light blue denim and add a cardigan or light jacket over the dress. Each outfit is versatile depending on the weather or your mood.

Hope everyone has a very happy long weekend!

I Tried Blue Light Glasses And This Is What Happened

Staring at a computer screen from 8am-5pm has been painful for my eyes and body. Recently, I have noticed that at the end of each work day I have excruciating headaches, dry and burning eyes, and am overall extremely tired. I was told to check out blue light glasses to reduce the pain and protect my eyes from the computer screen. I decided to try them and this is what happened.

For those of you wondering what I am even talking about, blue light glasses are clear lens glasses that block HEV blue light emitted by digital screens. If you have experienced dry and tired eyes after looking at a computer or even your phone for long periods of time, then you may have experienced the effects of blue light.

There are so many brands that sell blue light glasses. Some even offer the ability to add on blue light lenses to a prescription pair. For me, however, I was just looking for a pair that could ultimately eliminate my eye strain and headaches, while still looking cute (obviously the most important part!)

I purchased a pair from Quay Australia, and after doing some research, found that these were the best price and had amazing reviews. I also wanted a pair that had a stylish flair and could be worn with anything. When I initially got the glasses in the mail, I was a little uncertain by my choice. I am not used to wearing glasses everyday and was unsure how I felt about the frames and the fit. I decided to give them a try, and the next day, I wore them while online shopping and was obsessed! Not going to lie, it takes some time getting used to them and feeling comfortable.

I kept a mini diary throughout the week to share my experience day by day:

Monday, March 18, 2019

My first full day was definitely an adjustment! They felt funny and were very noticeable to me. I did still feel the tiniest headache at the end of the day, but overall it wasn’t anything painful. I also found myself fiddling with them, trying to find the most comfortable spot on my face.

Wednesday, March 20, 2019

By the third day, I did not have a headache. My eyes still felt dry at work, but I also think that is dependent on how dry the air is in the office and allergies. One lesson I did learn on day three was that I need to apply more powder to my face, or the glasses will remove all of my makeup!

Friday, March 22, 2019

On Friday, I worked from home and started to notice such a difference when I would take my glasses off. The lenses have a bit of a yellow tint to contrast the blue light. I didn’t realize how noticeable it was until I started removing them frequently throughout the day. My eyes were not dry, and I did not have any headaches!

By the second week of wearing the glasses, I felt great! Not only did I really love the look of them, but I was so pleased with how they eliminated all of my symptoms. By the time I would make my commute home, I was no longer suffering through uncomfortable headaches and eye pain. Of note, my glasses did start to become uncomfortable sitting behind my ears (almost like the pain I’d get when wearing those hard headbands as a kid. LOL let me know if you can relate!) I’m thinking a slight adjustment to the fit will make that all better!

Overall, I definitely recommend blue light glasses. I will never use a computer at work or home without them. I don’t think people need to pay over hundreds of dollars for a pair. The ones I purchased were reasonable and very sturdy. I recommend doing some research and even checking on Amazon for a deal.

If you are curious if you may be exposing your eyes to blue light and its effects, definitely check out PreventBlindness.org. They were one of the first websites I checked out when I was researching the harmful effects and wanted to learn more on how I could protect my eyes.

Remember, you only have one set of eyes! If wearing a pair of glasses could protect the harmful effects of using digital devices, then it is worth it!

Prepping My Winter Style with Jord + Giveaway!

Prepping My Winter Style with Jord + Giveaway!

Let’s face it, winter is on its way and approaching fast. I’ve been saying goodbye to my lighter fall pieces and embracing the layers. For me, my everyday winter style is simple. I gravitate towards cozy, vibrant sweaters and an easy pair of jeans or leggings. With that, I also want my accessories to be simple in style and functionality. That’s why I am choosing to pair my winter wardrobe with a Jord watch.

Jord is more than just a watch, it’s a unique timepiece. Pronounced ‘Yode,’ the watches are a sophisticated mix of natural, and largely re-claimed materials, combined with quality movements and components. Each watch is crafted with the finest wood, ranging from sandalwood to bamboo and embodies a minimalistic and classic look. I’ve partnered with Jord to show you exactly how to style these sophisticated pieces for winter.

I’m a busy girl and do not have time to fidget with larger, more ornate pieces, so I gravitate towards accessories that are simple, but have unique craftsmanship. My Jord watch matches perfectly with my other favorite accessories and is easy to wear. Tucked under a chunky sweater or bundled up with my favorite winter coat, my Jord watch fits right in with my everyday winter wardrobe.

I am wearing the Cassia style in Zebra & Ivory. Made from gorgeous zebrawood, the full Roman numeral concave dial is beautifully reflected in the domed sapphire glass. The thin band fits comfortably around my wrist, and I am obsessed with the large face. Its clean, yet stands out. Not to mention my Cassia watch came in a gorgeous Cedar humidor watch box with a cleaning cloth and a 6 month supply of Jord Preserve: a custom-formulated wood treatment gel with applicator pen.

With the holidays right around the corner this is the perfect gift for a loved one or that special someone. With a variety of styles for men and women, there is a watch for everyone. There is even an option to customize! Most watch backplates can be engraved, as well as their Cedar humidor presentation boxes. The watches can be easily sized for the recipient, come with a one year warranty and free worldwide standard shipping.

Just in time for the holidays, I get to offer my followers an exclusive giveaway! One lucky winner will receive a $100 gift code toward the purchase of any watch in the collection! All other entrants will also be emailed a consolation 10% off gift code. My Fall Weekend in NYC

Fall is one of my favorite times of year and what a better way to spend it than in New York City. Below is a recap of last weekend and outfit details!

The main reason I was in NYC was for the Bite Beauty Lip Lab. My mom and I had an appointment to make our very own Bite Beauty lipstick. It was such a cool experience, and I recommend it to any makeup lover or anyone looking for a custom lip color. I of course chose a nude shade, but got to try and leave with a neon purple one!

It wouldn’t be a trip to NYC if I didn’t eat… a lot! I ate so good this trip, but nothing was better than visiting Laduree for the first time. The brunch was amazing and the macarons were so magical. I need to go back asap! I am still dreaming of the rose croissant I enjoyed.

My family and I spent our time mainly in the Soho area, which is definitely the spot to be. We used to always visit Times Square, but after a while, I just couldn’t stand the crazy crowds. The streets were mainly residential with plenty of shopping and cafes.

Now to the favorite part… my outfit!

I have such an obsession with these hats! I call them train conductor hats, but they are more formally known as baker boy hats. The one I am wearing is from Nordstrom Rack and was such a steal for only $12.95! I paired it will a plain cotton long sleeve, high-waisted Topshop boyfriend jeans, white Adidas, a tan cardigan over the shoulder, and my Rebecca Minkoff crossbody. Outfit links are below!

Hat: Nordstrom Rack (Similar)   Shirt: Nordstrom Rack (Similar)   Jeans: Topshop

Shoes: Adidas            Sweater: Nordstrom           Bag: Rebecca Minkoff

I cannot wait to plan my next weekend getaway and share it with you!

My Must Have Pieces for Fall

Bring on the pumpkin spice please! Now that it is the end of September, it finally feels like fall! Fall is by far one of my favorite seasons. From cozy sweaters to chic booties, below are a few of my must haves for the season!

  1. Madewell Patch Pocket Pullover Sweater
  2. Madewell Starry Night Chenille Scarf
  3. Gorjana Laguna Adjustable Lariat Necklace
  4. Jo Malone London Wood Sage and Sea Salt Cologne
  5. Brixton Fiddler Cap
  6. Marc Fisher Yale Chelsea Boot
  7. Topshop Sallie Tortoiseshell Handle Tote
  8. Topshop Black Ripped Jamie Jeans

For fall, I always tend to lean towards copper and pumpkin colored sweaters. They pair well with the crisp weather and are extremely flattering on all skin tones. Another major staple in my closet for fall is black denim. I prefer if they are ripped because it adds an edgier feel, but the pair goes with nearly anything.

For accessories, I am absolutely obsessed with hats. The fiddler hat pairs perfect with every outfit for every occasion. But it wouldn’t be the season without comfy scarves and fun booties. I am in love with this star one from Madewell, which adds the perfect pop of color and pattern. I am also obsessed with these Marc Fisher booties. The pointed toe with a metal embellishment is a modern take on a classic style. This mustard color Topshop bag also caught my eye! It’s so chic, but has a unique twist with the turtle handle and side strap. Large totes are a must for the season to carry all of your necessities, and this one does the trick perfectly. Finish off any fall look with a long lariat necklace and a spritz of your favorite warm fragrance, and you are fall ready!

I hope these pieces inspire you to break out your fall wardrobe and enjoy a pumpkin spice latte!

Quick 23rd Birthday Recap and Reflection

Last weekend, I celebrated my 23rd birthday. It was probably one of the best birthdays I have had. I want to personally thank everyone for the birthday wishes and for making the weekend so special. Below is a recap of my weekend and a reflection as I embark on this new age!

Overall, the weekend consisted of lots of yummy food (Ruka and Eataly to be exact), plenty of bubbly, some fun in the city, and bowling with amazing friends. I was able to just settle down from a crazy work week and enjoy my time with family and friends! While there are so many pictures and boomerangs I could share, I picked two that showed my fave outfits of the weekend and of course one of beautiful Boston.

Those of you who know me know that I have a special place in my heart for Boston. I lived there for 4 years and really got to enjoy everything the city has to offer. Now that I am no longer living there, it was so extremely special to visit for a night and enjoy it during such a special weekend. I thought about how hard it is to make this transition into the next chapter of my life, working and becoming an ‘actual’ adult. It has yet to hit me that I am no longer in school and now redirecting my focus to adult matters, aka bills, work, and future plans. To me, Boston symbolizes some of the best years so far. Being back there made me emotional because it reminded me that I won’t be able to relive those times and my new life as a 23 year old grad is just beginning.

Remember I told you all I hate change? While I deal with the emotions and reflecting on my past, I also think about my life now and how amazing it is going to be. Twenty-three is about to be an incredible and challenging year. I am embarking on new freedoms and things that I have never had to deal with. But it also brings immense opportunity to travel and be the adult that I am.

It’s a new chapter filled with so many new surprises, and I cannot wait to see what happens.

How I Feel About This Year’s Nordstrom Sale

Every year around this time, I normally do a post on the items I purchased from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. This year, however, I will not be. Instead, I want to give you my honest opinion and feelings about the sale.

Whenever the anniversary sale rolls around in mid July, I make an effort to purchase quite a few pieces for the fall. It is probably the one sale that I take seriously as a shopper. This year’s sale, however, was not like the one’s in the past. As a shopper and loyal customer, I was a bit disappointed.

I am not a Nordstrom card holder, and will probably not be one until later on in life. In the past, I always had to shop once the sale went public, but I would never have a problem purchasing pieces I saw in advance. This year, I did not have much luck in store and online. I was able to purchase a pair of booties I saw in store, but even then, I dove right into that purchase for fear of missing out.

This year, their inventory for me was not up to par. The pieces were pretty blasé and not really anything that felt worth spending on. Not to mention their restocking of the pieces felt so all over the place. I am not sure if they purchased less inventory this year, but keeping track of restocked sizes was nearly impossible. I would see a jacket I liked, and within an instant, it would disappear. I know what you’re going to tell me, Courtney, that’s what happens with sales. Things sell out fast. But I am honestly telling you, I have never experienced this shopping the sale before in my life.

I stopped by my local store one day to see if I could get even a pair of jeans, but there was NOTHING left. I have never seen the store so empty during the public portion of the anniversary sale. It was practically bare. Last year around this time, I got a Theory leather jacket in my size and several pairs of jeans and sweaters. This year, I found none of that.

I talked to several other people that have shopped and browsed the sale, and they also agreed that the sale had nothing to offer and even that the items were poor quality. I am not sure what changes were made this year from last year’s, but it was a big disappointment as a shopper.

At this point, I gave up on the sale and am planning on looking for staple items once September hits. I love Nordstrom and will continue to shop there, but I had to give you all my honest opinion as a blogger and customer of the sale.

My hope is that next year, they will make changes and restore the Nordstrom Anniversary sale back to the way it was.

-XOXO Courtney

Mother’s Day Gift Guide 2018

Mother’s day is around the corner, and we should celebrate all the mommas in our life! Every year, I am always in search of the perfect gift for my mom. She has such amazing taste and has definitely some fantastic items already in her closet. My go-to is always Nordstrom. They have a range of items for anyone’s likes and needs. Below are a few items from their site that I felt were perfect options for any and every mom out there.

1. Kate Spade New York Mom Knows Best Pave Charm Necklace

2. Home is Where Mom Is Accents Pillow

3. Voluspa Embossed Glass Chawan Bowl Candle

4. Sweet Dreams Short Robe

5. Embroidered Cotton Tee

6. Baublebar Gabriela Fringe Earrings

7. Kate Spade New York Thompson Street- Sam Fabric Handbag

8. Anastasia of Beverly Hills Soft Glam Eyeshadow Palette

9. Tory Burch Thin Flip Flop

Since it’s spring, I leaned toward pastels, florals, and soft elegance. My favorite is the floral robe. My mom loves pajamas, so something cozy for her to hang around in is perfect. I also loved the tassel earrings. For a mom that loves a pop and to spice up an outfit with accessories, tassel earrings are the perfect piece for her. There is always options for the home lover too, with the Voluspa candle or a cute decorative pillow specially personalized for mom and the day.

Not on the list is athletic wear, which is the perfect gift for a mom that is active and likes to get outside. With warmer weather coming, there are always fun, bright colors in workout leggings and tanks that are great additions to a mom’s workout attire. These items here and here are amazing options!

Celebrate your mom this year with an item that she will love! Happy mother’s day to all the moms out there!

Fitness On Point

Fitness has become a huge part of my life in the past few years. I remember in high school, I would dread going to the gym, but once I got to college, I found it to be one of the best parts of my day. It is so extremely therapeutic and always lifts my spirits no matter what kind of day I have had. But no gym day is complete without a cute and comfortable outfit. With those fitness New Year resolutions happening, it’s the perfect time to step up your gym style and feel amazing working out! Below are a few pieces that I love!

Nike Pro Indy Soft Sports Bra

Zella Edge Seamless Top

Nike Presto Fly Sneaker

Adidas Originals Trefoil Logo Tee

Philosophy ‘Purity Made Simple’ One Step Facial Cleansing Cloths

bkr Spiked 16-Ounce Silicone Glass Water Bottle

Nike Sportswear Advance 15 Track Jacket

Alo Flex Tank

Dagne Dover Dakota Neoprene Backpack

Zella Live In High Waist Leggings

I love buying and wearing workout clothes in neutral tones. I find they are the most flattering on the body, but also make it easy to mix and match. One of my favorite trends is also anything with an open back, sides, or cool scrappy design. I think it’s fun to show off part of the torso and back while exercising. It adds a trendy and stylish look to a workout outfit, while also being practical and keeping you cool. My biggest tip would also be wearing sports bras and workout tanks WITHOUT padding! The padding can get so uncomfortable and be difficult to wash. Buy apparel without it and sports bras without it! If you need a bit of extra support, invest in a sports bra that is both shapely and has a bit of form to it. That way it’ll keep the girls in place, without adding any extra cleavage.

Have fun with your workout fashion! It’s a time to be comfortable, but also stylish!

-XOXO Courtney
