How I Feel About This Year’s Nordstrom Sale

Every year around this time, I normally do a post on the items I purchased from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. This year, however, I will not be. Instead, I want to give you my honest opinion and feelings about the sale.

Whenever the anniversary sale rolls around in mid July, I make an effort to purchase quite a few pieces for the fall. It is probably the one sale that I take seriously as a shopper. This year’s sale, however, was not like the one’s in the past. As a shopper and loyal customer, I was a bit disappointed.

I am not a Nordstrom card holder, and will probably not be one until later on in life. In the past, I always had to shop once the sale went public, but I would never have a problem purchasing pieces I saw in advance. This year, I did not have much luck in store and online. I was able to purchase a pair of booties I saw in store, but even then, I dove right into that purchase for fear of missing out.

This year, their inventory for me was not up to par. The pieces were pretty blasé and not really anything that felt worth spending on. Not to mention their restocking of the pieces felt so all over the place. I am not sure if they purchased less inventory this year, but keeping track of restocked sizes was nearly impossible. I would see a jacket I liked, and within an instant, it would disappear. I know what you’re going to tell me, Courtney, that’s what happens with sales. Things sell out fast. But I am honestly telling you, I have never experienced this shopping the sale before in my life.

I stopped by my local store one day to see if I could get even a pair of jeans, but there was NOTHING left. I have never seen the store so empty during the public portion of the anniversary sale. It was practically bare. Last year around this time, I got a Theory leather jacket in my size and several pairs of jeans and sweaters. This year, I found none of that.

I talked to several other people that have shopped and browsed the sale, and they also agreed that the sale had nothing to offer and even that the items were poor quality. I am not sure what changes were made this year from last year’s, but it was a big disappointment as a shopper.

At this point, I gave up on the sale and am planning on looking for staple items once September hits. I love Nordstrom and will continue to shop there, but I had to give you all my honest opinion as a blogger and customer of the sale.

My hope is that next year, they will make changes and restore the Nordstrom Anniversary sale back to the way it was.

Last Weekend In NYC

As I’ve gotten older, I love going on weekend getaways! Last weekend, I took a trip with my love to New York City! As usual, we saw plenty of sites, ate a lot of incredible food, and shopped (just a little)!

I had a list of things I was dying to do and see! Our first day, we arrived to extremely wet and windy weather. We pretty much just grabbed lunch and dinner and called it a day! If ever you are in the mood for some yummy deep dish pizza, Emmett’s is the place to go! Bill found it because he loves deep dish! The restaurant was small, cozy, and clearly a spot a lot of locals go to! It was a great way to begin the weekend!

On Saturday, the sun was shining, and I couldn’t have been happier! We walked over to Central Park where we had brunch at Tavern on the Green! The food was SO good, not to mention the restaurant was quaint and lovely. After, we enjoyed the Central Park Zoo, which is probably by far my favorite zoo! We continued to walk around the city some more, and of course, whenever I am there, I always need to stop in Topshop. But the highlight was definitely going to Magnolia Bakery by Rockefeller Center. I had been following them forever on Instagram and knew this was a stop that needed to happen. We tried their banana pudding, and it was life changing.

That night, we went to dinner with my uncle and walked around Times Square. This was definitely one of my favorite NYC trips! When we left, I immediately felt the need to go back. And trust me, I am already planning the next weekend there!

For those asking about my pink hat that I wore during the trip, it is from H&M. I’d been looking for that style for a while, but was not a fan of how most of them looked on me. Once I found this one, I knew it was meant to be. You can find a similar one here!

Transition Fall To Winter In Your Wardrobe

While it is still technically fall in New England, this past weekend felt like winter! I had to pull out my winter jacket and quickly transition my wardrobe for the cold weather. I found the perfect combination of pieces in my closet that could easily be made into a winter outfit.

Hat: Primark (Similar)      Shirt: Gap          Vest: London boutique (Similar here or here)

Jeans: Joe’s Jeans             Shoes: Adidas

Cranberry is a color that I love in the fall, but have realized looks beautiful in the winter months too. I paired this light, long-sleeve sweater under a fuzzy, black faux-fur vest. I wore a simple pair of stretch, crop denim with my Adidas. I also added this cranberry pom-pom hat for warmth and to match my shirt. In my opinion, I think this color is gorgeous and should be a staple in everyone’s closet and can be paired together for a monochromatic look too. My absolute favorite part of this look happened to be my furry vest. Vests are also a a huge portion of my closet and perfect for the transition from fall to winter. I love taking a simple shirt, like the cranberry one above, and throwing on a fuzzy vest to make the look more complete. I find that it can be perfect for a night out or a casual look for everyday. They are also easy to pair under a winter or wool coat.

A special thanks to Courtney MacDougall for being my amazing photographer! Check out her photography page With My Soul Photography on Facebook and Instagram!

They have some must-have fall pieces, like the best sweater dresses for sale, comfy tops, and cute denim. Below are a few pieces on my Dresslily wishlist!

I’m obsessed with how this bag is neutral, yet has dramatic detailing when it comes to the thick stitching. It’s the perfect accessory to pop any basic outfit. If you can’t tell already, I’m in love with accessories that take a simple look to the next level.

Going Back-To-School With Zaful

Back-to-school has officially begun, and that means a new year, new style, and new you! I teamed up with Zaful to show you how you can wear some of their cute fall pieces for an awesome back-to-school look!

Top: Zaful         Pants: Joe’s Jeans      Shoes: Steve Madden    Necklace: Zaful      Bag: Tory Burch

This was my first time wearing anything of Zaful’s, and I fell in love instantly. Their Loose One Shoulder Sweater falls gracefully off the shoulder and fits slightly baggy to add comfort. I paired it with a pair of plain, cropped dark denim, slides, and their Copper Sequin Choker Necklace. The choker can fit snug or loose around the neck and is durable enough to wear everyday. (It’s also a mock of the Lana Jewelry found at Nordstrom!)

Top: Zaful           Pants: Joe’s Jeans         Shoes: Halogen

I’m in love with ruffle blouses, and when I saw the Dip Hem Ruffle Stripe Blouse from Zaful, I was so excited. The blouse fits true to size and has two silver button detailing on the shoulder. The ruffles fall perfectly over the chest and goes great with my cropped, dark denim and these black slide loafers. It was an easy, but sophisticated outfit.

I hope this inspired you to check out Zaful for the best back-to-school looks!

Back to school and fall is almost here, and it’s time to face reality, and not only prep my life, but also my closet for the chillier months. I’m in need of some major fall fashion staples, and there is no better place than Zaful to get them! I have been a huge fan of Zaful, ever since I first spotted their swimsuits. They are a one-stop-shop for everything fashion and accessories! Now that summer is over, I’ve been eyeing some of their warmer pieces, like bright yellow sweatshirts, perfect for back to school. Below are a few of my favorites currently on my Zaful wishlist!

Flare Sleeve Plain Bowtie Blouse

This piece is perfect to dress up or down! Not to mention the color is the perfect pop as a fall staple, without it being too bright.

Shawl Lapel Belted Wrap Coat

Everyone needs a wrap coat in their collection. It’s not only warm, but can transform any outfit. Pair it with sneakers and your favorite pair of leggings or heels and a pair of cropped denim to up the look.

Short Sleeve Ruffle Hem T-Shirt

I pick these shirts over other basic tees any day. It goes perfect by itself or under your favorite cardigan. It’s also great for layering and can be worn all year round.

V Neck Ribbed Choker Sweater

Sweaters are my go to! If I’m lazy or even feeling glam, I love grabbing a cute sweater to wear. The choker detailing makes the outfit effortless.

Metal Bar Black Frame Sunglasses

Sunglasses aren’t necessarily a necessity for fall, but paired with a chic outfit, all black shades finish a look and are an easy accessory to throw in your bag if you’re on the go.

With so many pieces to choose from, Zaful is currently offering a Back to School, Back to Savings promotion! If you like any of these items I have on my wishlist or any on their site, take advantage of this great offer!

My Weekend in the Cape

This past weekend, I spent some time in Cape Cod with my family. Even though the weather didn’t cooperate as we would have liked, it was still so fun and great time spent away!

We stayed at a quaint Airbnb in Eastham near a beach. There was a beautiful roof view from our cottage of the ocean. I was able to get some sun in between the clouds, but the best day was on Sunday, when we visited Provincetown. I fell in love with the shops, the food, and of course the drinks! I definitely recommend visiting the area. The best food we had was from Arnold’s! The crab cakes are to die for! I could go for them all the time!

I also wanted to announce that my sister is raising money a second year in a row for Plummer Youth Promise. Since last summer, she paddles to raise money for the organization! Click here to support and donate. Every little amount helps!

For more adventures this summer, stay tuned!
